Healing as One: Lipata-Lamputong Integrated School's "Learner ko, Adopt ko" Program

(by MARY GRACE M. JOMUAD, PhD, LIPATA-LAMPUTONG INTEGRATED SCHOOL, Lipata, Culasi, Antique)

In response to the President’s call for “Bayanihan, We Heal As One,” Lipata-Lamputong Integrated School in Culasi, Antique initiated its, “ Learner Ko, Adopt Ko"  Program.  More than the desire to provide food and other basic needs to adopted learners during calamities and emergencies, the program aimed to extend health care services to ill and sickly learners, provide supervised programs for personality development such as proper hygiene and good grooming, enhance learners’ talents, and help them become good citizens of the country.

The project became a collaboration of several sectors in the community: the teachers, the Culasi LGU officials, PNP Personnel, Barangay Officials, and other stakeholders who shared whatever they can to prepare more than one hundred fifty (150) packs of relief goods/hygiene kits for the indigent learners, and SPED learners of two Barangays - Lipata and Lamputong in Culasi, Antique.

Considering that the school year suddenly halted, our learners and the community were not able to anticipate the events as they unfolded. The pandemic brought hysteria and anxiety. By adopting the learners, the children are made to feel loved, valued, and unabandoned

We don’t need to have deep pockets or be rich to help the needy, the poor and the hungry, we need to have a HEART,” says Kevin Dcruz. The benefactors of Lipata-Lamputong Integrated School proved that helping the needy, the poor, and the hungry, especially in times of the pandemic, did not entail so much. They just had to have the heart for the children. And that made all the difference.

We love our learners. We cannot let them go hungry in the midst of this pandemic.
