PhilHealth CARES 6: Beacon of Light to PhilHealth Members during the Pandemic

(by KRYSTLE ANGELIE P. DAGDAG, R.N.,  PhilHealth CARES 6 Regional Team Leader
PhilHealth Regional Office 6)

As the face of the Agency in health care institutions (HCIs), each PhilHealth Customer Assistance, Relations, and Empowerment Staff (PCARES) takes to heart the commitment to serve the Filipino people at the point of service.

As areas in Region VI were placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, most government and private sector employees opted to work from home to lessen the risk of contracting the infection. Meanwhile, the PCARES Nurses, a group of dynamic PhilHealth employees, remained committed to their oath of office as they braved the lack of public transport, the risks to their health, and their mounting fear to go on their tour of duty at the hospitals. They were deployed to various accredited HCIs in the Region, to assist and empower stakeholders, and ensure that benefits are well–accorded to all. PCARES also ensure compliance of partner HCIs to the quality of care, to the no balance billing policy, and to the strict adherence to protocols.

Even at the height of the pandemic and the widespread community lockdowns, the PCARES of Region VI continued to coordinate with the hospitals, without falter, or reluctance. Their acts of valor became beacons of light for the people truly in need, for the people who are at the lowest point of health. The men and women of PCARES, choose bravery not withstanding their doubt, fear, or insecurity. In the words of Marl Manson, “Bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery is feeling the doubt, the insecurity, and deciding that something else is more important.”

And the best proof of their bravery are the feedback and statements of support from the stakeholders such as this one sent by a client:
